Musical  Ministry

Let your heart be lifted through the musical worship at Martin Luther Lutheran Church.   We offer contemporary worship on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month.  During these services, the band "Not So Gentle Reminder" leads the musical worship within a framework of Lutheran liturgy. On the 2nd & 4th Sundays we have traditional services, with Kyle Johnson at the organ.  We are also blessed to have a wonderful choir which sings nearly every Sunday throughout the school year.  Indeed, MLLC has a vibrant and talented musical ministry that is sure to set your heart on fire for God!  Please scroll down to see pictures and details!

 NOT SO GENTLE REMINDER:        listen

MLLC instituted a contemporary service in 1994.  "Not So Gentle Reminder"  is an important part of the ministry at MLLC.  Known for their tight vocals and a high level of musicianship, they also bring a high level of energy to the services for which they provide music.  Their repetoire includes over 200 songs in a vast array of styles... folk, country, rock, reggae...  Members of the band also extend their ministry to other churches in the metro Kansas City area.  They play Sunday evening services, as well as morning services on their Sundays off.  They have also participated in several area youth rallys.  A full schedule of their services and activities can be found at http://www.m3musicministries.com

Craig Bonne (guitar), Ralph Dawley (bass guitar) and Bob Kaat-Wohlert (guitar) were the foundation of a band that became A Not So Gentle Reminder.  Many other guitar players, pianists and vocalists have passed thru the ranks throughout the years.  And some have become permanent members.  Theresa Kaat-Wohlert played guitar for awhile, then quit, but later came back as a vocalist.  Carl Cook began playing violin with the group shortly after his family became members of the congregation.  In the past few years, drummer Wes Burrows has become a part of our musical family.  Hana Wishy played regularly for a couple of years but since starting in the music program at Belmont University in Nashville, only joins them  during the summer.

ORGANIST:          listen

We are looking for an organist to perform at the 8:30 & 11:00 services, two to three times a month.  This position pays somewhere in the neighborhood of  $50-75 during the weeks that performances occur.   Please contact the church office at 816-524-2540 for more information.

(The photo above is a picture of our prior organist, Kyle Johnson, who was a blessing to our congregation and remained with us for several years while he finished his education.  He recently moved to Chicago to begin his new career)

CHOIR:         listen

High school students through senior adults are welcome in the MLLC sanctuary choir. We sing for services nearly every Sunday throughout the school year. The summer months bring opportunities for small ensemble singing and men's and women's chorus. We enjoy blending our voices with other church choirs for special events such as Christmas or Easter programs. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings and welcome anyone who loves music and wants to be a part of our choir. One of the most important characteristics we look for in a choir member is someone who enjoys fellowship with others. We work hard, sing sincerely and laugh a lot.  Shannon Lawrence, owner of Heartland Music Academy and Supply, directs the choir.  Cathy Solsberg is the choir accompanist.
